The time has arrived, as such things inevitably do, to announce the winners. Of course, as moi is fond (perhaps TOO fond) of saying, the contestants are ALL winners, just for taking part. It's an honor just to be nominated, etc, etc, yada, yada, yada. Nevertheless, somebody has to take those enormous trophy things home to put on their mantleshelves. You have already seen that some girls (e.g., Miss Peru, moi's friend Jenny and umm won for Best National Costume, Swimsuit and Evening Dress, respectively), and so it came to the awarding of special trophies for special characteristics, such as Congeniality, Audience Favorite, and so forth. Subsquent to that, after the interminable questions and the whittling down to ten, then five girls, came the climax of the evening, with the crowning of Miss Queen of the Universe 2008. .

First of all, here are the "enormous trophy things" referred to above, which peops have to take home to put on their mantleshelves .

Now for the various awards .

First, the contestants all lined up on stage .

Miss Peru walked away with the Audience Favorite Award .

While Miss Portugal, seen left at the moment of awarding, walked away with practically everything else. A portent, perhaps? .

There was a brief entertainment interlude, featuring Viva Sex, who accepted the plaudits and greenbacks of her admirers .

Then the field of 28(!) was winnowed down to the lucky ten finalists, seen above and left. .
